Markings: The left side of the receiver has the serial number and is marked “Remington / MODEL 700”, the bolt has the last 4 digits of the serial number. The top of the stock, in the barrel channel is marked “GRISWOLD”. The scope rail is marked “BADGER ORDNANCE 1005 / 306 06”. The bipod is marked “HARRIS”. The recoil pad is marked “Decelerator”. The magazines are marked “ALPHA .308 PAT PEND”.
Barrel Length: The barrel measures 20″ to the muzzle and 22″ to the end of the muzzle brake.
Sights / Optics: There are no iron sights. The drilled and tapped receiver is wearing a 6 1/4″ long Picatinny pattern Badger Ordnance scope rail, showing light marks.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a Griswold custom synthetic item that has oversized target contours, pebbling on the flanks of the pistol grip and forend, with QD conduits on the left side of the forend and butt; the butt stock has a hook on the belly for stability; the action is bedded, the barrel is free floated until the receiver. The stock has a desert camouflaged pattern and shows scattered scuffs and general handling marks; this being said, the stock is free from major damages and cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the Pachmayr Decelerator black rubber recoil pad; the pad has light marks, rating in about Excellent condition. The stock rates in about Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: The metal has either a Duracote or Cerakote mid-tone desert tan finish.
Finish Originality: Refinished, the job was done well.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 93% of its metal finish, the balance is seen as a thin scratch on the left of the barrel, some wear on the rear right of the receiver and normal wear on the bolt from use; there is a mark and wear on the inside of the magazine well. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger breaks at 3lbs 8oz with very little take-up. The rifle weighs 12lbs 3oz without a magazine. The barrel has a 2″ long muzzle brake with large side ports and smaller top ports for reduced recoil. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with two 10-Round Alpha magazines, an adjustable Harris bipod and Badger Ordnance scope rail, all items have light wear from use, in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This is a really nice Remington 700 in .308 Winchester, sporting a removable magazine floorplate, Griswold free-floating stock, Badger Ordnance scope rail, 0.914″ diameter heavy profile barrel that is topped with a SERIOUS muzzle brake; along with the extended bolt handle and Harris bipod, this should make for a really nice tactical / precision build that is robust and shows a bright, crisp bore. The Remington 700 action has been one of the most reliable and upgradable platforms available, rivaling all in its class. This setup should please even the most demanding shootists!
