Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered white hard rubber panels with scripted “US” in oval on the flanks, which have checkering and smooth borders. The stocks have slight discoloration and the right panel has a tiny crack by the screw escutcheon. The stocks have exceptional fit to the grip frame. The grips rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Polished Blue
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The surfaces have a few extremely thin scuff marks present. The upper flanks of the hammer have small spots of patina. The cylinder does not have a drag line, indicating this pistol was probably used infrequently, if at all, outside of factory and was well taken care of in the interim. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent condition and would rate in Excellent plus condition but for the tiny crack on the right panel.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces nominal side to side play with no measurable back play in full lockup of all TWELVE chambers. The mechanics have crisp report and the trigger pull is smooth. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the revolver’s original serialized factory black cardboard box, which reflects the item’s configuration. The interior has gray foam; the box and foam are in Excellent condition with only light marks. A black fabric pistol bag, instruction manual, lifetime warranty and factory insert are included, in a plastic display bag that bears a “U.S. FIREARMS MFG. CO.” hang tab, all in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: From Wikipedia “United States Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company, Inc. (U.S. Fire Arms Mfg. Co., ) was a privately held firearms-manufacturing firm based in Hartford, Connecticut. Originally produced single action revolvers that were clones of the Colt Single Action Armyrevolver. The factory was located “Under the Blue Dome,” the former site of the Colt East Armory, where Colt’s Manufacturing Company produced many of their classic firearms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company no longer exists since about late 2011, and The Company was the last fire arms maker in the The Colt’s Armory Complex – and the site is now seeking Historic Landmark Status.” This is the Model 12/22, as the name would suggest, it is a 12 shot .22 Long Rifle revolver modeled after Colt’s Single Action Army Model of 1873. The mechanics are absolutely crisp, the craftsmanship is definitely apparent upon first sight and these items are no longer made, making it a collector’s dream. About 99% of the metal finish remains and the bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. The stocks are checkered white hard rubber. Included is the original factory box, pistol bag and a group of factory paperwork as photographed. Be honest with yourself, what could be more fun than a 12 shot SAA? Please see our pictures and good luck.
