Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MODEL 70-FEATHERWEIGHT / MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL / .243 WIN.” with “WP” in oval, found again on the left side of the receiver, which is also marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK”, the right side has the serial number. The underside of the bolt handle is marked “R”, the bolt body is hand etched with the serial number. The sling is marked “GEO. LAWRENCE & CO. / PORTLAND, OR. / 4”. The left side of the rear scope base is marked “B&L OPT. CO” with the logo.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, integral to a base that is dovetailed onto a stippled ramp base that is covered with a blued sight hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf with a white enamel triangle on the rear face; the leaf is micro-adjustable for elevation and sits in a flip-up base that is dovetailed onto the barrel. The drilled and tapped receiver is wearing a two piece B&L (Bausch & Lomb) quick detatch scope base system; the front base has an adjustment dial for windage, the rear, for elevation. No scope or other items are provided. The bases have only a few light marks, rating in Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The walnut stock has a semi-pistol grip and two QD swivel studs installed. The flanks of the forend and grip are checkered and the Monte Carl comb is fluted. The stock shows scattered light scuff marks and some instances of compression to some of the checkers. There is a notable ding on the left side of the toe, with some moderate depth marks on the left side under the receiver area. The stock is free from cracks and major damages. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the serrated trigger shoe to the back of the black checkered alloy shotgun-style butt plate; the plate is in the white on the outer edges and shows only a few minor marks; the plate is in about Excellent condition. The stock rates in Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its finish. The barrel and receiver have some extremely faint scuffs, the bolt handle has minor thinning, the extractor and bolt body show expected wear from normal use and there is a minor mark on the fore portion of the hinged floorplate. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle is mounted with a two piece Bausch & Lomb quick disconnect scope base set, no scope is provided; these items show light marks and are in about Excellent condition. Also included is a vintage George Lawrence Number 4 brown leather sling that has supple material, a few spots of discoloration and light marks but no major damages, rating in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: You are bidding on a pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight with a 22” blued barrel chambered in .243 Winchester, which is a superb medium game cartridge available in many different ballistic offerings a a reasonable price; the high condition of this rifle may secure it a place in a collector’s safe. The metal finish is retained at about 97%, the stock has only minor cosmetic marks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and the action functions with fluidity.
