Barrel Length: 30”, with ventilated rib and barrel connection.

Choke: Upper barrel: 0.688” (Extra Full), Lower barrel: 0.700” (Improved Modified)

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with an orange plastic front sight that is fixed to the ventilated rib, which runs about 25” until it dips down to join a solid portion of the rib that runs towards the breech. The rib tapers from about 0.45” at the breech to 0.27” at the muzzle. The top of the rib is milled in a semi-crescent pattern, with a very gradual “U” groove, the length of the elevated rib.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two piece European hardwood set; the forend features ergonomic finger grooves on the flanks with wrap around checkering; the stock displays scattered light marks, most of which go unnoticed until closely inspected. The butt stock has a semi-pistol grip and flank checkering on the wrist, which comes down nearly vertical in an exaggerated curve; the stock is cast-off for right hand shooters. The stock presents very light marks and has a few moderate depth compression marks on the right flank of the wrist and on the right near the recoil pad. There is some light compression to some of the checkers. The drop at comb is about 1 7/16”, the drop at heel is 2 ¼”. The trigger is on an adjustable rail, with a gold plated adjustment lever; the LOP is adjustable from 14 ½” to 14”, measured from the front of the trigger to the back of the Decelerator brand solid recoil pad; the pad is set with a black spacer and has marring on the face at the screw hole as photographed. The stocks rate in about Fine to Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued & Matte Coin, with Gold Filled Lettering on the Upper Tang.

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some scattered light marks on the barrel set; the right side of the frame has some scuffs in the detailed engraving that is not noticeable until close inspection. The edges of the rib have thinning, with some notable small marks at the front of the rib at the muzzle. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel set hinges on a bifurcated lump and trunnion pivot configuration (http://www.hallowellco.com/bifurcated_lumps.htm), which dramatically reduces felt recoil and provides a completely solid frame to barrel mating. The trigger guard comes out of the frame by pushing the safety selector forward, this helps maintain the system without hiccup! The shotgun has a single non-selective trigger that is adjustable for LOP. The shotgun weighs about 8lbs 6oz. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The MX8 action incorporates a single non-selective trigger, which comes out of the frame when the safety selector is pushed forward, making for easy maintenance. The lines are sleek, the metal engraving is a sight to behold and about 95% of the blued and matte coin finish remains. Outside of scattered scuff and moderate compression marks, the wood has fantastic appeal and fits the metal with superb elegance. This shotgun is every trap shooter’s dream; the design has all but dominated Olympic and competitive circuits for decades now and one can see why. Please take some time to review our photographs and good luck!
