Sights/Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed into a checkered ramped base that is screwed to the barrel. The front sight has a protective hood installed. The rear sight is a “U” notched express sight that is dovetailed into a base that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation. The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled, tapped, and filled holes.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is one piece checkered walnut with a pistol grip, fluted straight comb, cheekpiece, two through bolts, and a black rubber Decelerator buttpad. There are a few scattered light handling marks. The checkering is mostly sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and 13” to the back of the wood. The pad shows only minor wear from handling. Overall, the stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is faint erosion in the bore at the muzzle. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9.5 – 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are light handling marks, no major defects. Light speckling of surface oxidation is present on the front side blade and protective hood. There is minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the bolt. Pulled to the rear, the safety is ON, locking both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back halfway, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years; reliable, robust, and accurate, it is one of the benchmarks by which all bolt action rifles are measured. It has more than earned its nickname of “the riflemans rifle” and is one of the most iconic rifles around. This example is the Safari Express model with a 24” barrel, express sights, and a handsome checkered walnut stock. Efforts were made to set things back to rights when it came to the Model 70 and this model has the feature of the lauded control-feed bolt. Chambered as it is in the beastly .375 H&H Mag, you are prepared for the biggest game around. By appearances, this rifle appears to have spent more time in the box than out, as there are only a few light handling marks. The rifle rates in Excellent condition and looks great, this will make for a powerful addition to a Winchester or hunting rifle collection. Good luck and happy bidding!
