The buttstock has ornate foliate engraving in conjunction to the checkering. The original checkered bare buttstock is included but not installed. The wood shows a few light nicks, scratches and some minor handling and storage marks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 3/4” and 12 7/8” from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttpad, and 13 1/8” and 12 1/4” to the wood. The drop at the comb is 1 1/4”. The drop at the heel is 1 7/8”. The cast is neutral. The stocks are in Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. There is some light erosion in the bores. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates an 8 or 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal refinish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear or damage, just some light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are mostly clear with a few shallow spots. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine Plus condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel lockup is tight with no play to the receiver. We did not fire this firearm. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes with original buttstock as described above.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 21 was their deluxe side-by-side shotgun. The shotgun’s initial production run from 1930 through 1957 yielded approximately 116,000 guns. The Model 21 was Winchester’s effort to make a quality side-by-side shotgun to rival those of high-end makers such as Parker and Fox. The standard grade came with select grade walnut stocks and ribbed barrels, and Skeet, Trap, Tournament and Duck grades were also available. This is a standard grade shotgun made in 1932 and is quite early in production. It has a manual safety, extractor, dual triggers, and a checkered stock with a splinter forend. The 28” barrels are choked IC and Modified. Chambered for 12 gauge, it should make for a versatile field gun. That said, the Winchester Model 21 shotguns are very collectable, sought after for both their variety of configurations and their quality as a shooter. We expect the collectors and shooters to both take quite an interest in this gun. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
