There are some scattered light compressions and minor marks through the finish. There is some finish wear on the edges around the bolt handle. The checkering is strong. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad shows light wear and discoloration, remaining fairly supple. Overall, the stock is in Fine condition.

Blue

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion. In my opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition:
This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There is finish loss on the bottom of the barrel at the muzzle that has been touched up. There are some scattered light scuffs that have lightly thinned the finish. There are some little nicks and scratches. There are some spots of light surface oxidation. There is finsih wear on the bolt handle and spots of discoloration from previous oxidation. The bolt is serial matching. The screwheads show light wear. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
None.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years; reliable, robust, and accurate, it is one of the benchmarks by which all bolt action rifles are measured. It has more than earned its nickname of “The Riflemans Rifle” and is one of the most iconic rifles around. This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Super Grade rifle chambered in .300 H&H Magnum that was made in 1953. The Super Grade has nicer-grain wood with a nosecap, grip cap, cheekpiece and nicer checkering than would be found on the Standard Rifles. This example is in Very Good condition, appearing to have seen limited and responsible use in the field, retaining a great bore and strong mechanics. The fit and finish is superb, the craftsmanship is evident and everything comes together in perfect harmony for a wonderful rifle the likes of which aren’t encountered much these days. Pre-64 Model 70s have significant collector interest, and the Super Grades even more. This will be a nice addition to your collection and a great shooter too! Please see our photos and good luck!

Some are hot, some are not, but thankfully most can be shot!
