Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. — WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL” and the right is marked “—WINCHESTER— / TRADEMARKS LICENSED FROM OLIN CORP.”. The top rear of the barrel has a “WP” proof in oval. The underside of the receiver and trigger frame are marked with matching serial number “2TEX122”. The butt plate has Winchester Repeating Arms Co.’s markings.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, dovetailed onto a ramp base sitting before the forward barrel band, it is under a sight hood. The rear sight is a wide “U”-notch with a white triangle aim guide in an elevator base that is dovetailed onto the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved to accommodate mounts and optics (not included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There is no significant wear or damage. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has sharp checkering. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore is a 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is some very faint freckled surface oxidation on the sides of the receiver. There is some light finish wear on the muzzle. There is some light operational wear and light handling marks. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in its factory matching box with a manual, safety lock, hammer spur, and factory handouts.
Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422M based, of course, on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The standard 9422 was chambered for the .22 LR and shorter rimfire cartridges, but the 9422M is chambered for the more powerful .22 Magnum. This cartridge has more power, being suitable for larger varmints like coyote and can shoot further than the smaller rimfire cartridges. The action has to be felt to understand, with a flick of the wrist, you’ve already got another round chambered. This rifle is a part of a special production run for CDNN of Texas, hence “TEX” in the serial number prefix. There were 500 rifles manufactured in four different series (2,000 total). It is in Fine-Excellent condition showing faint indications of use. The rifle still has a very good bore and strong mechanics and would make a welcome addition to a collection.
