Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a beavertail forend, capped pistol grip, straight comb and a ventilated brown rubber Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. The stocks have scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are thin, short cracks in each side of the wrist at the scallop corners. The checkering is well defined. Drop at comb is 1 3/8”, heel is 2 1/4”. The LOP measures 14 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the pad and 13 3/8” to the back of the wood. The recoil pad has some scattered light wear and stubborn residue, but remains fairly supple. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blued with Silver-Colored Receiver

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with no erosion. There is a notable nick in the muzzle of the right barrel. In this writer’s opinion, the bores rate 8 out of 10 due to the nick and would rate 10 out of 10 without.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 87% of its metal finish. The receiver’s finish is strong throughout with some minor scuffing. The blue finish is thinning at all edges with some scattered nicks, scuffing and scratches. There is a notable nick in the muzzle of the right barrel. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety engages automatically when the action is opened. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: Through years of production, well-proven side by side shotguns have shown off the best of Beretta’s skill. They incorporate features that enhance performance and durability while preserving their simplicity. While most are surprisingly light and responsive, this Silver Hawk is a 10 gauge magnum, and you’ll appreciate a little extra weight when you shoot it!

The gun has wear consistent with some use in the field, but retains strong mechanics and a tight lockup. If you’re looking for a new goose gun, look no further. This gun is ready for the field and is sure to turn some heads. Good luck and happy bidding!
