Model: MC-8-3, aka MU-8-3 Competition Trap & Skeet

Serial Number: 650927

Year of Manufacture: circa 1970s – 1980s

Caliber: 12 Gauge, 2 3/4” Chamber

Barrel Length: Trap Barrel: 28.5”, Vent Rib. Skeet Barrels: 26.5” with Vent Rib.

Choke: The installed 28.5″ Trap barrels measure more constricted than Full, likely Skeet (both). The Skeet 26.5” barrels measure Cylinder Bore, Fixed. The Skeet barrels feature Russian, Tula-style competition chokes.

Sights / Optics: The front sight on the installed barrels has been removed. The rib is drilled and tapped above the muzzles. The top of the rib is serrated to help reduce glare. The alternate barrels have a rear-facing white bead in a mount fixed to the rib above the muzzles. The top of the rib is also serrated to help reduce glare.

Weight: 8 lbs, 2.0 oz.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are three-piece checkered wood featuring a two-piece forend, a semi-pistol grip, a fluted Monte Carlo style comb and a checkered wood butt. The wood shows light nicks, compressions and a few minor handling and storage marks. The checkering has a few imperfections but remains distinct overall. The LOP measures 14.25” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt. The drop at the comb is 1.75”. The drop at the heel is 2.5”. The cast is neutral. The stocks are in Fine Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are semi-bright. There is some persistent fouling and light erosion in both bores. In this writer’s opinion and for the age, this bore rates an 8 or 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a few scattered nicks and handling marks. The screw heads are mostly sharp with a few that are lightly-tooled. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel lockup is tight with no play to the receiver. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes with the 26.5” Cylinder bore barrels as described above.

Our Assessment: This is a Russian MC-8-3 over/underCompetition Trap & Skeet shotgun. Please note this shotgun does not seem to have any import marks. The “-3” means it comes with 26.5” skeet barrels. This gun is the deluxe, civilian version of the MTs series of shotguns made by TSKIB SOO (which roughly translates to the Central Firearms Research Institute) to be an Olympic level competition shotgun. In fact, the MC-8 is the very model used by Russian sport shooter Yevgeny Petrov when he won the Gold Medal in Skeet Shooting at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and he scored a world record in international skeet at the ISSF World Shoot in Phoenix, AZ by knocking down 200 out of 200 pigeons!

We recognize this is a relatively rare opportunity to buy a shotgun like this and we hope this shotgun finds a good new home. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
