Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion but there are streaks of thick stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 8.5/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. There is a notable little cluster of dings on the left side of the barrel below the front sight and a small white scuff on the right side of the mag tube in the same area. There are some light scratches and nicks on the right side of the receiver and the loading gate shows finish loss. There is an area of faint discoloration on the left side of the receiver. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. A black canvas paracord lever wrap is installed. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The previously mentioned sling and scope are included as well as a round-holder stock sleeve.

Our Assessment: The original Model 1895 rifle ceased production in 1915, and was upgraded and brought back into production in 1972. The barrel is chambered in .45-70 Govt. and has Ballard rifling, which produces tighter groups with lead bullets than Marlin’s Micro-Groove rifling.

This is the Model 1895 Dark from Marlin Firearms Co. manufactured in 2020 rating in about Fine condition with 94% finish remaining. The rifle features a sleek, all-black appearance with a threaded 16.25” barrel, providing maximum handling and maneuverability. It comes equipped with an XS picatinny rail that is mounted with a Cabela’s Covenant AR scope. This rifle is undoubtedly a beauty and will serve its new owner well for decades to come. Please see our photos and good luck!
