Markings: The right side of the frame is marked “STI INTERNATIONAL / GEORGETOWN, TX USA” behind the slide stop and is marked with the serial number in front of it. The right side of the slide has the USPSA logo. The right side of the rear sight is marked with an arrow and “LEFT”.  The top of the rear sight is marked with an arrow and “UP” plus the logo that reads “STI” within a stylized oval. The left side of the slide is marked “U.S.P.S.A.”. The left side of the rear sight is marked “STI INTERNATIONAL”. The top of the chamber is marked “9 X 19”. 

Barrel Length: 5″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated Dawson Precision blade with a red fiber-optic insert, which is dovetailed onto the slide. The rear sight is a wide, serrated and square notched target sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation, it is dovetailed onto the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are aftermarket Crimson Trace black and gray G-10 panels with a red laser, checkering, and serrations. There are no major defects, just light handling wear. The laser functions correctly. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless & Matte Black 

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion but there are some areas of fouling. In my opinion, this bore is a 9 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some minor scratches and draglines visible on the stainless slide flats. There are some scattered light handling marks. In terms of a competition gun, this is very lightly used. There is light operational wear. The grip screws are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: This pistol has an ambidextrous extended thumb safety, adjustable skeletonized trigger, strong mainspring, extended mag well, full length Recoil Master dual spring guide rod, skeletonized hammer, and the grip safety has a rise to index one’s palm correctly each time. The slide and frame have superb mating. The action works correctly. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching case, paperwork including the manual spare front sight fiber optic insert, tools, and one 9-round magazine.

Our Assessment: This is NOT your grandpa’s 1911, but with the same controls he could pick this up and safely run the next USPSA match with limited training. Legal for USPSA Single Stack Division, the imaginatively named “USPSA Single Stack” pistol, is built to win—just like the rest of STI’s products. The pistol has a forged frame, ramped barrel, Dawson sights, STI sabertooh serrations, memory bump grip safety with knuckle cuts, extended magazine release, and a beautiful tri-top slide with ball cuts….just to name a few. The lines are beautiful along with the fit and finish. These pistols used to be the best-kept secret, race-ready out of the box, but in recent years their popularity has exploded. Now add to it the fact that STI as we know it is no longer doing business—yes, “Stacatto” is around but the guns are not the same. The STI brand was competition oriented and they have since rebranded with a new focus. Going after a market segment that shoots a couple of boxes of ammo a year and GOV/LE contracts was much more enticing than continuing to cater to the gamers. Less repairs, guys who don’t even know what “major PF” is, and on top of that tons of Instagram posts for free PR!! No matter the case, STI is no longer doing their thing, so the only way to get one of these beauties is on the used market. I don’t know what you are waiting for? Trade in that old 1911 for one of these if you are a serious shooter. This pistol is ready for double duty, shoot Single Stack minor power factor in USPSA and also take her to the races at the Steel Challenge!!
