Markings: The right side of the slide has gold inlay scroll engraving with an Officer standing next to a cruiser, police Helicopter, and the Seal for the County of Los Angeles. The right side of the frame is marked “COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / 61054B70”. The right side of the trigger guard is marked “T”. The left side of the slide is marked “LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SPECIAL EDITION” along with a bit of gold scroll engraving and a nice border. The floorplate of the magazine is marked “COLT / 45 AUTO M”. The exposed portion of the barrel is marked “COLT .45 AUTO / MK. IV/SERIES ‘70”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notched leaf dovetailed to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece smooth Wood grips sport a gold Colt Custom Shop medallion on each panel. They exhibit very little evidence of use and rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is the slightest bit of surface loss on the grip safety from being handled. The pistol shows no sign of ever being taken down or fired by the original owner. (all pistols are fired at the factory, no gun is unfired). The grip screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The pistol is equipped with one 7-round magazine with “COLT / 45 AUTO” and “M” stamped to the floorplate in Fine condition. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A Colt Series 70 auto box is included. The Styrofoam insert, plastic bag, and factory caution tag are also present. The box has tattered edges and no end flaps, they have all been torn off. The Foam has discolored in spots and is dented. The box is in poor condition.
Our Assessment: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special edition 1911 is a looker. The gold is classy and not to over the top flashy. This example is in excellent condition with very little sign of handling. This is a great opportunity to purchase a rare commemorative in high condition. The Colt 1911 is a classic American pistol and will be a great addition to any collection.
