Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the United States military through two World Wars and several other conflicts, is still in use by some units today, and has become popular with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters across the nation. The design has seen some updates including a firing-pin block safety, higher profile sights, and more ergonomic grips, but the basic design and fantastic trigger remain the same after more than a century. Due to its popularity and long life, the 1911 has also been a popular choice for custom pistols, with a wide variety of sights, barrels, parts, and popular modifications. This is a full house custom 1911 made in celebration of Colonel Jeff Coopers 80th birthday and in honor of the occasion, only 80 were made. A marine, firearms writer & historian, and influencer of modern combat doctrine, Col. Jeff Cooper was an icon of the American firearms community best known for his endorsement of the 1911 pistol, his considerable contempt of the 9mm cartridge, Scout Rifle concept, and his coining of the term “hoplaphobe”. This 80th birthday signature pistol is built to his wishes and features a slimmed frame, lanyard loop mainspring housing, 3.5# trigger (tested and signed off on by the legend himself), bobbed spur hammer, serrated front strap and MS housing, dehorning, Kart Match barrel, oversize bushing, grip safety matching frame contour, precise fitting and polishing, JC crest smooth stocks, and Cooper signature and Gunsite raven in gold inlay. This pistol comes with a quality control checklist signed by Jeff Cooper himself and he shot it too! Heck this may even be the pistol he is holding in the picture that comes with this gun! The pistol was built by Ted Yost who is one of America’s most sought-after firearms artisans, sharing over 30 years of professional experience with a discerning clientele. Known internationally for precision craftsmanship and traditional elegance, Yost’s creations are reminiscent of “bespoke” guns from the world’s finest work shops. At the time of this build he was the gunsmith at the famed Gunsite Academy. A continuing student of the tradition and art of gunsmithing, Ted’s work embodies the very soul of the gun making art – from his restorative work on quality double guns, his artful and interpretive renditions of the classic hunting rifle, to his masterful command of the gentleman’s sidearm. This 1911 is a holy grail gun for sure and some guys have even reported waiting 15 years to get their hands on one…after seeing it first hand we know why. This is a beautifully crafted investment grade 1911 that will improve any collection it joins! Please see our photos and good luck!
