Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “CAL. 308 Win.”, “MADE IN FINLAND”, and a Finnish proof mark. The right side of the barrel is marked with a factory warning over “IMPORTER – BERETTA U.S.A., Corp., ACKK., MD 20607”. The left side of the receiver is marked “SAKO 85 S”, the serial number “F68814”, and a Finnish proof mark. The bottom of the bolt is marked “814” and has a Finnish proof mark.

Sights/Optics: The front sight is an elevation adjustable patridge blade slotted and pinned in a ramped riser that is screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a windage adjustable square notch leaf dovetailed to a riser that is fixed to the barrel. The receiver is grooved for mounting an optic (not included).
Stock Configuration and Condition: The full stock is one-piece checkered walnut with a rosewood capped schnabel tipped forend, rosewood capped pistol grip w/ right palm swell, fluted roman nose comb with cheek-piece, and black rubber buttpad. There is a sling swivel stud front and rear. There are no significant imperfections. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP is 14 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The buttpad shows some scattered light discoloration. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. This rifle is free of any notable wear or damage. The screws are sharp and all markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork and Accessories: Included with this rifle is the serial labeled end flap of the box, one 5-round magazine, safety lock, sling swivels, and a bolt disassembly tool.
Our Assessment: Sako 85 is a bolt-action rifle produced by the Finnish manufacturer Sako since 2006, and the name signifies that Sako celebrated 85 years that year. The model 85 is marketed as one of Sako’s premium models for hunting, and is delivered in many different configurations and chamberings. According to Sako the rifle is available in over 1000 different configurations. This example is a model 85 S constructed for left handed shooters. It has a beautiful checkered full stock with rosewood caps and a convex comb with a cheek piece. The .308 Winchester is considered the standard hunting cartridge in the United States. It has gained popularity in many countries as an exceptional cartridge for game in the medium-to-large-sized class.
