Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch in the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece faux ivory grips. The grips have only a few scattered minor marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the original grips are in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates a 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks and light finish thinning on the left side of the muzzle. There is a very faint turn line The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lockup produces almost no play on each chamber. The trigger is crisp. The firing pin is conical and there is no window in the loading gate at the hinge, indicative of US-made parts. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a cardboard USFA box with a black exterior, green interior and a black cloth USFA bag.
Our Assessment: Colt’s Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the “gun that won the west”, perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This revolver is the absolute closest to a Colt you can get without a pony on the side. Produced by US Firearms in the old Colt plant in Hartford, Connecticut “under the blue dome” and 100% US made, this USFA single action is a beauty to behold and one of the finest single action revolvers ever produced. The US Firearms Manufacturing Company produced a limited edition John Wayne Commemorative Red River D Revolver. The Red River D is a single-action revolver chambered in .45 Colt with a 4.75-inch barrel. The John Wayne Commemorative edition was released to honor the legendary actor and his role in the 1948 film “Red River.” The revolver features John Wayne’s signature etched on the backstrap.
