Make: Walther W. Germany

Year of Manufacture: 1989 (the barrel is proofed “IH” 1987 but the receiver is marked “IK” 89 so we are taking the later)

Caliber: .22 Short / 22 Kurz

Action Type: Semi Automatic detachable magazine

Markings: the left side is marked with the walther banner near the muzzle and “Carl Walther Waffenfabrik / Ulm/Do. Made in W.-Germany “ followed by the German Nitro Proof and “IH” and the serial number “31016”. The left side of the lower frame is marked “IK” along with the German nitro proof. The right side of the barrel near the muzzle is marked “40”. The underside hidden at the wrist in electric pen is the initials “RKH”.

Barrel Length: Roughly 3 3/8″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Patridge style. The rear sight is a fully adjustable target sight for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are Custom Walnut wraparound target grips with stippling. The grip appears to be one piece as is on the pistol. It is nearly impossible to craft such a large grip from one piece of wood, and upon closer examination you can see the slightest seam where the two pieces meet. The seam is easily overlooked and the grip appears to be one piece at a glance. The inside of the grip that makes contact with the back of the hand has some light scratches, likely from handling. The stippling is a little soft and some dirt has built up in the grooves, again normal from handling. The grip should fit most average size hands. Still with the grip angle and hand placement this grip may not be suitable for you. As with all us average guys, we can probably live with the shape angle and size, but some shooters may prefer their own custom fitted grip at this level of competition, we cannot tell if this will fit you. The grip rates in about Fine – Excellent overall condition, beautifully figured.

Type of Finish: Matte Blue

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is Bright and the rifling is Sharp There is NO erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is loss to the moving parts and handling. The most notable spot is the rear of the grip under the sight. The frame may have been shaved and polished when this grip was installed to get the desired grip angle and smooth finish. The front sight is a plastic and has slightly discolored slightly over the years. It does not affect the function. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine- Excellent condition, it is slightly discounted for the finish loss to the backstrap and if any alteration was made to the original frame. All wear is in hidden areas and in hand the pistol is Excellent.

Mechanics: The action functions Correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in the Walther factory hard plastic case. The end labe is on the box and is numbered to the gun. There is an instruction manual, Test target, cleaning rods, an extra 22 short / Kurz magazine, and some spare parts. All the accessories have been lightly used and some of the spare parts may have been installed previously.

Our Assessment: WOW! Look at that grip! We have seen our share of cool target grips, and these wrap around grips are just gorgeous and seamless. The pistol has a great balance to it and nice sight picture with the wide rear sight. The trigger is extremely crisp. These pistols were built specifically for international and Olympic Rapid Fire Competition. The OSP is chambered in the low recoil .22 short cartridge to keep shooters on target between shots. A great buy for the collector or shooter with all the accessories.
