Our Assessment: Introduced by Colt as a lighter-weight version of the 1911, the smaller size of the Commander was popular and soon they were offered in a number of variations including different frame materials and calibers. The original development centered on an aluminum-frame 9mm as a candidate for US Military post-war officer’s pistols, but there were different configurations and chamberings produced. This example is a .45 ACP Commander Light Weight model produced between 1977 and 1979. The pistol is in Fine-plus condition with wear consistent with gentle use and holstering, a more than decent bore, and strong mechanics. This will make for a nice carry pistol, but it will also make for a nice addition or start to a Colt auto collection. Now, ready, aim, bid!
