Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two piece checkered select walnut with beavertail forend, pistol grip, adjustable monte carlo comb and black rubber Kick-Eez recoil pad. The stocks have some scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is a patch of more notable wear on the front face of the forend. The checkering is generally well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The drop at the comb as currently adjusted measures approximately 1 3/8” at the front of the comb, 1 1/4? at the back, and drop at heel is 2 1/4”. The LOP measures 14 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad, 13 1/4? to the back of the wood. The pad has some light wear and a few spots of residue, but is still supple. We suspect that the adjustable comb is a modification to the original stocks, indicating that they have been refinished. The stocks rate in Very Good-plus overall condition as refinished.
Type of Finish: Blue, the forward receiver flats are polished Bright.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and scratches. The barrel has minor wear from the forend which is concealed when assembled. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in Very Good-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Please note, this shotgun has a release-trigger, it does not fire when the trigger is pulled but when it is released. The barrel locks up to the receiver with barely perceptible play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a hard-sided Americase with combination (000) lock. The exterior of the case has a Ljutic Shotguns sticker and the interior of the lid is embroidered with a Ljutic logo and “K.L.F. – H.P. #1”.
Our Assessment: Manufacturing only 340 Shotguns a year at its height in the early 1980s, the Ljutic facility made these guns with pride and precision. Known for their futuristic “Space Guns”, Ljutic holds a very special place in American gunmaking history. This Ljutic Mono-Gun TC LTX looks like it knows its way around a Trap field, showing wear consistent with being used for its intended purpose. The buttstock has been altered with an adjustable monte carlo comb and the gun retains a great bore and strong mechanics. With its 33″ barrel and release-trigger, this shotgun ought to have quite a few rounds of trap left in it. It will also make an interesting addition to a collection, with only a few thousand guns made since their founding in the 1950s, Ljutic shotguns always make for a great conversation piece. Please see our photos and good luck!
