Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “44” in front of the cylinder pin head. The right of the barrel is marked “”COLT COLLECTOR SPECIAL EDITION””. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY. 2,72. JAN. 19,75.” and with a rampant colt. The right of the frame is marked “39 OF 250”. The underside of the frame at the grip frame, the left side of the upper and lower grip frame straps (under the left grip) are marked “SA65849”. The front face of the cylinder is marked “5849”, the rear face “44-40”. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP”, the right rear “K” and the right front is marked “H”. The inside of each grip panel is marked with “39” and “65849”, hand-written.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-circle blade. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut panels with smooth diamonds at their centers, fancy carved borders and silver Colt medallions at their tops. The grips have only a few scattered minor marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered minor scuffs and handling marks. The cylinder has a thin turn-line, not through the finish. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has barely perceptible play on each chamber. The trigger pull is crisp. This revolver has a fixed cylinder bushing. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements

Our Assessment: Produced in 1983, this is a beautiful Colt Collector Special Edition Colt Frontier Six Shooter, the same as their iconic Single Action Army, but chambered for Winchester’s popular .44-40 cartridge. Its gorgeous metal finish is set off by its factory deluxe carved and checkered walnut grips. The revolver is in Excellent condition and comes with an attractive display case.
