Our Assessment: Founded in 1979, Kimber of America swiftly developed a reputation for high-quality rifles, predominantly due to their Model 82 rimfire rifles. Made in a variety of configurations, the Model 82 developed a well-deserved reputation for accuracy and was also introduced in some popular center-fire .22 and .17 calibers. Due to their accuracy and unparalleled build quality, the military decided to contact them for a trainer in the 1980s after the old trainers were worn out. This is a commercial Model 82 Cascade chambered in .22 LR, it has a 22? barrel paired with a deluxe claro walnut stock. This one is a special model, the barreled action was built by Jim McKinley who was the service manager for Kimber for nine years. The stock was originally a Classic stock, the stock this rifle sits in is a prototype Cascade stock. After completing the stock the rifle took a trip to the 1980 Shot Show where it received a good reception in its Cascade outfit and the Cascade model made it into the catalog. Mr. McKinley also checkered the bolt knob, a nice one-of-one feature you will not find on other Cascades. The rifle remained in the collection of Mr. McKinley until he eventually sold it, his letter is dated 2006. These are some of the nicest rimfires you can get your hands on and this one is made even cooler by its unique history. Please see our photos and good luck!
