Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and “Remington / MODEL 40-X”. The left side of the chamber is marked “308 WIN”. The bolt is hand inscribed “520F”. The top of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON CUSTOM SHOP ILION, NY”.
Barrel Length: 20″, 22″ AAC Muzzle Brake
Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights on the barrel. The left rear of the receiver has a pair of drilled, tapped, and filled holes. The top of the receiver is installed with a one-piece Iron Brigade Armory rail.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The action sits in an FDE JAE 700 chassis with a rubberized pistol grip, multiple QD Sling mounts, rail sections and a black rubber buttpad. The stock has some scattered light handling marks. There a few marks through the finish, most noticeable on the left side by the magwell. The screws have some oxidation. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The buttpad has some light wear. The stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few light marks. The bolt handle has been modified and installed with a large knob, it can come loose but a little Loctite on the threads is an easy fix. There is some grip tape on the bolt knob. There are some scattered little spots of wear. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent.
Mechanics: An aftermarket trigger has been installed. The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a Ruger 5-round magazine, Accurate Mag 10-round magazine, Accurate Mag 5-round magazine, the installed Magpul bipod, and the installed Hoptic USA two round holder.
Our Assessment: Introduced in 1962, the Remington 40-X series has been a staple of bench-rest shooting for more than half a century. The Remington Custom Shop produces all of the rifles in this series to ensure superior performance. This example has been further customized by a previous owner and been set in a J.
