Our Assessment: The .44 Magnum is well-suited for hunting. In addition to beating the ballistics of the old .44-40 rifle loads, long considered a top deer cartridge, the heavy, flat point bullets typically used in the .44 Magnum have an additional advantage—they aren’t as prone to deflection and bullet upset by contact in brush as are the thin jacketed light bullets used in most modern rifles. However, because of bullet drop, you might need to keep your distances under 200 yards. It would seem the perfect use for this rifle has got to be hunting pigs where fast multiple shots are often required against fast running, hard to stop targets.
This Ruger Deerfield Carbine is in Fine Puls condition, showing signs of limited and responsible use. It comes with a magazine, manual and in its original shipping box. It should prove to be a great hunting rifle for its next owner. Good luck.
