Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY 44-40”, the top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2,72. JAN. 19,75” and with a rampant Colt logo. The underside of the frame at the grip frame is marked “SA92755”. The left side of each portion of the grip frame is marked “SA92755” under the grips. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle. The front face of the cylinder is marked “92755”, the rear face is marked “44-40”. The inside of each grip panel is hand-written “92755”. There are inspector marks “T” and “W” on the rear-left face of the frame under the grip. The inside of the left grip panel has “SA92755” and “R C F” in blue ink, the right has “R C F / . 5 . 6 . 2003 .”, also in blue ink.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth bone panels made by Roy Curtis Fishpaw of Lynchburg, VA. The grips have no notable wear or damage with only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition as not original to the gun.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder has just a hint of turn-wear. There are a few minor scuffs and tiny scratches. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder locks up with almost no play on each of the chambers. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a faux-wood cardboard Colt box with two-piece styrofoam inserts and an assortment of factory paperwork which does not include the manual. The box has heavy wear with only one short ear remaining.
Our Assessment: Colt’s Model 1873, the Single Action Army, is the “gun that won the west”, perhaps the most iconic handgun of all time. For nearly 150 years, the gun has been produced in a variety of configurations, finishes and calibers. This revolver is a beauty to behold and one of the finest single action revolvers ever produced. It is in Excellent condition with 98% of its factory nickel finish, a bright bore with sharp rifling and strong mechanics. It is chambered for the classic .44-40 Winchester cartridge with a 7 1/2″ barrel and its nickel finish is set off nicely by a wonderful set of Fishpaw grips. Roy Curtis Fishpaw, dubbed “Dean of American grip makers” by collectors, was renowned for the quality of his grips. Sadly, Mr. Fishpaw passed a few years ago, so this is a nice find for those who can appreciate his exquisite work. This revolver will take a prized place in a Colt collection and would certainly make for a gorgeous “BBQ gun” or display piece as well as being a beautiful shooter, should you so choose.
