Markings: The left side of the frame is marked “MR221” and “Remington®”. The bottom of the frame is marked “Baikal”. The water table is marked “MP-221” and has a Izhevsk proof adjacent to “08”. The left barrel is marked “30-06 Spring” and the right barrel is marked “USSG-ROCKLEDGE, FL. IMZ. RUSSIA”. The bottom of the left barrel is marked with a safety disclaimer and has the date code. The left side of the barrel flat has the caliber designation and a Russian proof (“S” with a “P” inside in Cyrillic). The bottom of the right barrel is marked with the date code. The bottom right of the barrel flats is marked with the date code and serial number. The top tang is marked with the serial number. The forend iron is serial matched.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a post fixed to a serrated ramp situated on the barrel rib between the muzzles. The rear sight is a “U”-notch dovetailed to an accessory fixed at the rear of the rib. There is an accessory rail on the rear of the rib (no accessory is currently installed or included beyond the dovetailed “U”-notch).
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stock is two-piece wood featuring a checkered forend, a checkered semi-pistol grip, a straight comb and black rubber butt-pad. The stocks have some light handling marks, but they lack any notable defects. The checkering remains sharp. The LOP is 14.25” and 13.25” from the triggers to the rear of the butt-pad. The butt-pad has some light handling marks. Overall, the stock is in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are both mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is some light erosion and stubborn fouling concentrated in the grooves.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks, nicks and scuffs, but the gun lacks any notable defects. The markings remain clear. The screwheads are only lightly tooled and remain serviceable. Overall, the rifle is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock with barely palpable play on the frame. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: The gun comes with its serial matched box, a user manual and some miscellaneous paperwork.
Our Assessment: This Baikal MR-221 is a side by side Top-Break Rifle chambered for .30-06 cartridges. The gun was produced by Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (today known as Kalashnikov Concern) in 2008 and has only light handling marks. This is a well constructed utilitarian sporting rifle that will certainly prove a worthy addition to your collection. Good luck on your bid!
