The stock has a few scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There is light wear around the rear sling swivel. There are a couple of more notable nicks at the bottom edge of the grip and at the left-rear of the forend checkering. The checkering is otherwise well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad shows light wear and discoloration, having hardened slightly with age. Overall, the stock is in Very Good-Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action shows light operational wear and there is handling wear on the bolt knob. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine-plus condition and would rate Excellent but for the light wear in the stock.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the right side of the receiver. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 70 Magnum made in 1961 and chambered in the .375 Holland & Holland Magnum cartridge. The rifle is in Fine-plus condition with about 98% of its finish, light wear in the stock and a great bore. The .375 H&H is a belted magnum cartridge suitable for North American big game animals and even some of the thinner skinned game animals of Africa. This is a beautiful rifle in a great hunting cartridge that has years of hunting use left in it. That said, it’s also a desirable pre-64 Winchester Model 70 with an uncommon factory rear sight and would make a great addition to a collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
