Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC, / ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. / PATENT PENDING” at the rear, and at the midsection with “Remington” and “MODEL 541-S CUSTOM SPORTER / .22 SHORT, LONG, OR LONG RIFLE”. The left side of the barrel is marked with the date code and inspection marks. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The right side of the barrel is marked with test marks. The receiver and trigger guard have scroll engraving.

Sights / Optics: The front and rear of the barrel both have a pair of drilled, tapped, and filled holes. The left rear of the receiver, below the stock line, is drilled, tapped, and filled. The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled, tapped, and filled holes. The top of the receiver has a male dovetail mount and is installed with a pair of rings holding a Leupold 10x scope. The scope has some scattered light marks. There is some finish wear on the adjustment caps. The scope has a crosshair and the glass is clear, it rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is checkered walnut with a straight comb, pistol grip, marbled plastic caps & buttplate, and white spacers. There are a few compressions, draglines, and handling marks. There are some dings through the finish, most noticeable on the bottom at about the magazine well. The checkering is intact and strong. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has some light wear. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. There is light handling wear. There are a few scattered little nicks and scratches on the barrel, most noticeable at the front. There is some light operational wear. The screw heads are lightly worn with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This is a Remington 541-S Custom Sporter with a scroll engraved receiver and checkered walnut stock. This example has a bright bore with no erosion making it a good contender to take out into the field to hunt some small game or simply ward off pests on your property. It is very light and you could easily carry or for hours without getting tired while chasing rabbits or squirrels. This will be a fun gun to shoot cans or critters with and will be around for years to come with proper care. Please see our photos and good luck!
