Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “J. STEVENS A. & T. CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.”. The left side of the barrel is marked “22 L.R.”. The lower tang and underside of the barrel are marked with the serial number “1629”. The Stevens logo and info is on the buttplate.

Barrel Length: 26”, 1/3 Octagonal 2/3 Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to the barrel above the muzzle. The rear sight is a Lyman peep tang sight which is adjustable for elevation. The top of the barrel has a blank dovetailed to hold the place of a rear iron sight (not included). The top of the barrel has also been drilled, tapped and installed with a two-piece mount for rings and optics (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece wood featuring a schnabel forend, straight wrist, straight comb and a black hard rubber buttplate. There are a few light scratches and nicks scattered throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has some light wear and some trapped dirt in the grooves. The stock is in Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a couple of light scratches on the barrel, a patch of finish wear at the muzzle and some light surface oxidation on the middle of the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Model 44  is a falling block design from the beginning of the 20th Century. The rifle is chambered in .22 Long Rifle and can be used for small game hunting, varmint control or just an interesting conversation piece from the previous century. Good luck in your bidding!
