There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4? from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has light wear and oxidation around the edges with stronger finish in the well defined checkering. Overall, the stock is in Very Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There are some light nicks, scuffs and scratches, most notable on the trigger guard and the top of the barrel over the front of the forend. There is a little bit of wear on the bridge from a previously installed scope mount. The action shows operational wear and there is handling wear on the bolt knob. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good-plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the bolt. Pulled to the rear, the safety is ON, locking both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle chambered for the classic .270 cartridge and made in 1954. The rifle appears to have seen responsible use in the field, retaining about 94% of its metal finish with light wear in the stock, a great bore and strong mechanics. It comes equipped with its original iron sights, but no modification is necessary to mount an optic or receiver sight if you prefer. Ammunition for this rifle is typically readily available in a variety of loadings and makes for a wonderful hunting rifle. Whether you’re looking to add to your Winchester collection or just want a great hunting rifle, this will be a great gun to add to any safe in America. Please see our photos and good luck!
