Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “CUSTOM MADE BY PACHMAYR L.A. CALIF. U.S.A.” and SAKO / Cal. 222”. The left side of the barrel is marked “Finland”,with a Lion’s Head proof and a “MV” proof. The left side of the receiver is marked “L461 No. 110241”, with a Lion ’s Head proof and a “MV”.
Barrel Length: 23 ½” Round
Sights / Optics: A checkered ramped base with a dovetail slot and grooves for a hood is fixed to the barrel at the muzzle and no provision for a rear sight is present. A two piece scope mount is set into claw mount grooves which are machined into the top of the receiver. A Leupold M8-6X scope is fitted into scope rings set into the grooves. The scope is marked “LEUPOLD / 353430”. The edge of the objective bell is marked “M8-6X”. Only very minor evidence of use is present on the scope which is of fixed focal length. The optics are clear and feature a crosshair reticle. The scope is in Excellent condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece deluxe hardwood stock features a pistol grip, ornate checkering on the grip and forend, a cheek piece for right handed shooters, an ebony grip cap and ebony forend. The fine checkering sports a fleur de lis design and an internal border. Three small marks can be found on the left side of the stock at the ejection port, otherwise only faint evidence of use is apparent. The wood has a lovely hue and the dark grain pattern is exquisite. The grip cap is black with a reflective gold oval which makes up most of the lower surface. The grip cap is in Excellent condition. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the black solid rubber recoil pad which sports a basket weave pattern and a Pachmayr logo on the rear face. Little evidence of use is visible, the rubber is firm but pliable and the recoil pad is in Excellent condition. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. Little evidence of use is visible on the barrel and receiver. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear except “Finland” on the left side of the barrel is only partially legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle is equipped with a Leupold scope as described above in Optics. A 1” wide brown leather sling is mounted to the rifle. The sling is marked “BOYT” and the brass fittings have developed a natural patina. The sling is in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This is a beautiful pre-Garcia, Pachmayr Custom Sako Vixen Model rifle. About 99% of the metal finish remains. The bluing is deep and smooth and there is little evidence of use. The deluxe stock has a spectacular dark wood grain pattern. The stock features fine ornate checkering, a fluted buttstock, a right handed cheek piece and ebony forend tip and grip cap. The stock is stunning and is in Excellent condition. A Leupold scope in Excellent condition and a 1” leather sling round out the package. This is a varmint caliber rifle, chambered in .222 Remington and built on the L461 action. Pre-Garcia Sako rifles are collectible and they do not get much nicer than this Pachmayr Custom Vixen Model Sporter.
