Markings: The right side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK”. The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK / MADE IN U.S.A.”, MODEL 52 – .22 L. RIFLE / WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL” and an Oval “PW” proof. The left side of the receiver is marked with an Oval “PW” proof and “86964C”.
Barrel Length: 24” Round Lightweight
Sights / Optics: No provisions for open sights are present on this rifle. A Buehler quick release sight mount is screwed to two sets of tapped holes on the top of the receiver. Two filled tapped holes are visible on the left side of the receiver to accept receiver mounted rear sights.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece deluxe walnut stock features fine checkering on the grip, a fluted buttstock and quick release sling swivels mounted to the forend and buttstock. Only the slightest evidence of use is present on the forend and minor wear is visible in the forend checkering. A sharp mark is present on the lower left front face of the grip and a compression mark can be found on the belly at the toe. A long, thin shallow mark runs from the top of the cheek piece to the buttplate. Small chips in the stock are present along the buttplate at the heel and toe and two small compression marks can be seen near the butt plate on the right side of the stock. A blue checkered grip end cap is present, in Excellent condition. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the checkered shotgun style rollover buttplate. Finish thinning and minor war in the checkering is visible and the buttplate is in Fine condition. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is moderately worn. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its current metal finish. Scattered spots of freckling and handling marks are visible on the barrel and receiver with a cluster of small marks through the finish apparent on the top of the barrel at the muzzle. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are worn. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This rifle is equipped with a Winchester Micro Motion trigger which is adjustable for pull and over travel. The Micro Motion trigger system was considered state of the art at the time if its introduction. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle is equipped with one 5 round magazine in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: For many years the Winchester Model 52 was the premier small bore match rifle in the the world. Known as the “King of the .22’s,” the Model 52 has been called one of the 50 best guns ever made by Field & Stream magazine. This is a refinished Model 52C with a beautiful deluxe walnut stock. The 52C was equipped with the Winchester Micro Motion trigger which was “state of the art” when released. The trigger is easily adjustable for pull-weight between 2.5 and 6 lbs, and travel between .030 and an almost imperceptible .003 inches. This rifle has been refinished and retains about 98% of its current metal finish. Only a few marks and scattered incidents of freckling are visible on the metal surfaces and a few minor marks are present on the stocks. In Excellent condition as refinished, this is a lovely collectors’ piece.
