Markings: The right side of the receiver is marked “DAKOTA ARMS / 76” and with the serial number. The right side of the chamber is marked “416 RIGBY”. The underside of the bolt handle is marked “R171 / L”.

Barrel Length: 24″ Mag-Na-Port

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed into a ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is an express sight with a fixed shallow “V” notch and a single folding leaf, it is dovetailed into a quarter rib. The top of the receiver has bases that are installed with a pair of quick detach rings holding a Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6 power scope. The rubber adjustment ring has come loose from the scope. There are a few scattered light marks from use and storage. The scope has a duplex reticle and the glass is clear. The scope rates in about Excllent condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is checkered walnut with a capped pistol grip, straight comb, cheekpiece, wood forend tip, two recoil lugs, sling swivel mount inlet into the belly, and a solid rubber buttpad. There are some compressions, the most noticeable is on the left side of the buttstock. There are a few nicks and dings into the wood, the most noticeable are at the toe. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is mostly strong. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the solid rubber basketweave buttpad. The recoil pad exhibits light wear. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is some thinning on the edges, most noticeable on the floorplate and receiver. There are a few scuffs on the bolt knob. There are a couple little dings and scratches on the bottom of the barrel. There are a few scattered light handling marks. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Its exceptionally solid Mauser type action and controlled feed bolt produce world-renowned accuracy and shot-to-shot consistency, and the fit and finish are impeccable. This is a Model 76 Safari Grade bolt action rifle from Dakota Arms. Dakota made their way into the rifle market producing high-quality rifles at “affordable” prices, though their quality means that affordable is in relation to rifles such as Blaser, Cooper and other high-end manufacturers. Beginning in 1982, they have been known as one of the top makers of bolt action rifles ever since. This example has a 24? barrel chambered for .416 Rigby with a beautiful walnut stock and a matte blued finish. This is a gorgeous rifle that will make a nice safari gun for one lucky winner.
