Markings: The left side is unmarked. The right side of the barrel shroud is marked “DAN WESSON ARMS / 357 MAGNUM CTG”. The right side of the frame is marked “DAN WESSON ARMS / MONSON, MASS. U.S.A. / SD020324”. The right side of the grip stud is marked “SS” in a circle.
Barrel Length: 8”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a wedge shaped Patridge style blade. The rear sight is adjustable for windage and elevation, with a square notch and angled target style blade.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The one piece grip is a Pachmayr Gripper model with a “DW” medallion on each side. The grip shows only light handling marks. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Brushed Stainless Steel
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is leading which needs to be cleaned from the bore, mostly towards the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some brush marks in the finish. The lower right side’s sharp edge of the barrel lug is somewhat irregular. We are unsure if this left the factory like this, or if it happened later. The screw heads are sharp but show signs of use. The markings are clear. The trigger is smooth and the hammer is checkered. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly in single and double action. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with an Aimpoint Scope base by “M.G.W. LTD” it has only light marks on it from use. Also included is a clear blue plastic multi-tool for taking down the revolver. This shows some fracturing in the plastic and rates in Very Good condition. There is a small envelope with five Allen wrenches. There is another small envelope with six springs, four screws, an additional front sight, a spare part, and a barrel bushing. Please see our photographs for more detailed information on these parts than we are able to describe here.
Our Assessment: This is a great Dan Wesson Arms .357 Magnum double action revolver with an 8” barrel and adjustable sights. It was made in Monson, Mass. We believe it’s a Model 715 and was manufactured between 1993-1995. It is in Fine condition and should accept many of the Dan Wesson ‘small frame’ parts and accessories.
