Markings: The top tang is marked “E73870B”, the bottom of the receiver is marked “GARDONE VT / ITALY” and “P. Beretta”, “P. Beretta” is also marked on each side of the receiver. The receiver has extensive scroll and floral engraving with a duck scene on the left lockplate, a grouse scene on the right and a woodcock scene on the bottom. The trigger plate is marked “PATENTED / Mod. 687 EELL / Bottega C. Giovanelli”. The bottom of the trigger guard has scroll/floral engraving as does the top of the lever. The top of the forend iron is marked “73870”, the exterior of the forend iron has floral engraving. The left of the top barrel is marked “P. Beretta-Gardone V.T.-ITALY-” and with “PB” in oval and at the chamber with “20 GA. 3 IN. – 26” M/IC”. The left of the top barrel below the top of the forend is marked “CAM 76” and “15.9” next to three punch marks (Modified Choke Marking). The left of the bottom barrel is marked “EXCELSIOR-HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL / KG0.980”, “15.8” and with four punch marks (Improved Cylinder Choke Marking), the bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “BB7 M”. The bottom of the monoblock is marked “E73870B” with three proof marks and “AN” date code. The right of the top barrel at the chamber is marked “BERETTA USA CORP., ACKK, MD. / MADE IN ITALY”.

Choke: The bores have been threaded to accept Briley chokes. Two Skeet I chokes are installed. Also included are two Modified, two Cylinder, two Improved Cylinder, and an additional Skeet and Improved Cylinder extended chokes.
Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a white bead at the front of the ventilated rib and another small white bead midway. The top of the rib is checkered to reduce glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered select walnut with finger grooves on the top of the forend, straight grip, straight comb, a Beretta Gel-Tek recoil pad and an unmarked brass plate inlet to the toe-line. The stocks have a few scattered light compressions. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 14 3/4” & 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and wood, respectively. The drop at comb is about 1 5/16?, drop at heel is about 2 1/16?. The cast is about neutral. The buttpad is soft with no significant wear or damage. The stocks rate in about Fine-Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is very light wear on the bottom of the barrels from the forend. There is a ding at the front of the rub and upper barrel on the left. There are a few faint marks on the trigger guard. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly marked. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. The trigger is a bit thick and will need to be properly cleaned. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a Beretta case with a Briley choke set, two additional butt pads, a choke wrench, two snap caps, and cover socks.
Our Assessment: This Beretta 687 EELL in 20 gauge is a great example of quality Beretta shotguns. From the solid action to Bottega Giovanelli’s beautifully engraved scenes on the receiver, this is a shotgun that will turn some heads at the range with performance to match its looks. The shotgun is in about Fine-Excellent condition with only light handling wear, bright bores and strong mechanics. If you’re looking for a nice sporting shotgun, this is the one.
