Our Assessment: “Get to the Choppa!” If there is a gun in all of firearms history that deserves a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it would be the Claridge Hi-Tec family of guns. No unique firearm has been featured in more films than this aesthetically semi-futuristic gun or has been held by and showcased in the hands of Hollywood’s most famous movie icons. From Total Recall, Planet of the Apes, to Firefly and Iron Man 2 and many movies in between, the Calridge, and its antecedent the Gonsz GA-9, has been Hollywood’s go to prop in storytelling – Making this a highly collectible item. These Claridge guns will soon even have their own display at the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West! But it isn’t just the movie history that makes this pistol so unique.
The Claridge Hi-Tec was originally designed by Hungarian inventor Lajos John Goncz and manufactured in limited quantities by Claridge. The forged steel frame and tubular shape housing, a telescopic bolt design similar to that of the Israeli Uzi, a high quality match grade barrel, its button rifling, and the unique appearance truly make this a one of a kind firearm experience. This Claridge was consigned with us by the Claridges themselves, and comes from the very last of their stock. Even better, for California residents, this Northridge-made pistol is one of the very few of the Hi-Tec L9s which was made without a barrel shroud, making it legal for transfer to CA residents (as a PPT at our Simi Valley location). Win yourself a Claridge “Space Gun” and tell a Hollywood story of your own with a weapon that could be right at home in the hands of Han Solo or Captain Kirk. Don’t listen to your friends and family who told you to not be a “square” and get this totally tubular gun!
