Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut with checkered oval texturing, finger-grooved forend, pistol grip with right-side palm-swell, adjustable comb and black rubber Winchester buttpad with black plastic heel cap. The stocks have a few scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches. There are two thin cracks at the bottom-rear of the forend from the rear edge of the forend latch assembly to the rear edge. The LOP measures 14 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The trigger is adjustable for LOP, having approximately 3/8″ of adjustment available to the rear (reducing to 14 1/4″). The pad has minor wear, most notable in the heel-cap. Drop at the front of the comb is approximately 1 3/8″ and 1 3/4″ at the rear as currently adjusted, drop at heel 2 1/8″. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good-Fine condition and would easily rate Fine but for the cracks in the forend (common for this model).
Type of Finish: Blued & Chrome
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a couple of minor nicks and scuffs on the right of the barrels about mid-way between the front of the forend and the muzzles. The action shows minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The barrels lock up with no play. It has a single selective inertially operated trigger. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a red plastic Winchester case with a set of chamber locks and a choke wrench.
Our Assessment: Based on the iconic Model 101, the Select Energy is a shotgun with legendary styling and handling, thoroughbred for clay shooting. There were a few different variants and this is the Sporting model, set up with 32″ ported barrels threaded for Invector Plus chokes so it could be adapted to whatever course you’re shooting. This example currently has Skeet chokes installed, so it should also make a great skeet gun for those who prefer longer barrels. The forend has a couple of cracks, an unfortunately common occurrence for this model, but otherwise shows little sign of use. This shotgun features a Hi-Viz sight, palm-swell grip, attractive chrome-finished receiver and a single selective trigger. If you’re looking for a 12 gauge sporting clays or skeet gun, you won’t do much better than this. Please see our photos and good luck!
