Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked “COMPETITOR”. The left side of the barrel is marked “44 MAGNUM”. The left side of the frame is marked with the S&W Performance Center logo. The right side of the frame has the four-line Marcas Registradas Address. The yoke cut is marked with the serial number and model number. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. The sides of the grip frame and the yoke have inspection marks.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a patridge blade that is dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is an LPA sights serrated square notch target sight in a base that is screwed to the topstrap. The topstrap is drilled and tapped under the rear sight. The top of the barrel has an integral rail.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a textured black rubber S&W branded Hogue Monogrip with S&W logos, finger grooves, and their pebble texture. There are a few light marks and the texturing is strong. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is strong. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some scattered light marks. There is a faint turn line on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single-action trigger is crisp and the double action is smooth. The cylinder locks up with hardly any play on each chamber. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching case, barrel weight spacers, and paperwork including the manual.
Our Assessment: Popularized by Dirty Harry movies, the N-frame long barrel S&W revolvers had already been on the shelf in America for a few decades; after the movie, the Model 29 was revered by target shooters and law enforcement alike. The 629 is the stainless steel version and has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. This one is from the Performance Center and has a heavy slabside barrel, integral rail, weight system, integral Weaver rail on the barrel, and of course a Performance Center action. This revolver has multiple provisions for optics and comes equipped with nice adjustable sights. This one is in great shape and may be a prime contender for an S&W collection.
