Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT BORDER PATROL / * .357 MAGNUM CTG * “. The left side of the frame is marked with a Rampant Colt logo. The yoke cut and yoke are marked “J72142”. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with a Triangle and “T”. The right side of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”.
Barrel Length: 4” Round with ½ Length Ejector Rod Housing and Full Length Solid Top Rib
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade pinned to a serrated ramped base fixed to the top rib. The rear sight is a square notch leaf adjustable for windage and elevation pinned to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece checkered walnut grips sport a silver Rampant Colt medallion on each panel. The checkering is sharp and only the lightest handling marks are visible. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. A few tiny, shallow marks in the finish are visible and very shallow drag marks are present on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and the cylinder lock up is tight. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The revolver comes in its original goldenrod cardboard box with a faux wood patterned lid displaying a gold Colt logo. A black dot from a marking pen and a rectangle of dried adhesive bordered by moderate surface thinning are visible on the lid. The corners exhibit mild wear. The underside of the lid is goldenrod and has instructions for the care of the pistol printed in black. The floor of the box is embellished with Colt’s Warranty information and safety guidelines. The box is in Fine condition. A blank product registration card in Good condition and a small manila envelope containing a Colt key fob screwdriver tool can be found in the box. The tool exhibits patches of solid surface erosion and is in Fair condition.
Our Assessment: A ‘Trooper’ variant, only 5356 Second Issue Border Patrol pistols were manufactured between 1970 and 1975. This one is in Excellent. A fine, heavy duty double or single action revolver in .357 Magnum and .38 Special, this Border Patrol comes in an original Colt box and will only get more valuable at time goes on.
