Our Assessment: The Weatherby Mark V has a long history, in production continuously since 1957 and has been produced by several manufacturers including Howa of Japan and Sauer of Germany. This example was made in Japan by Howa. At first blush one notices the lustrous, deep blue of the barrel and receiver, looking for all the world like a midnight lake under a full moon. The eye moves then to the Walnut stock with its attractive grain and rosewood accents, the light brown rubber of the recoil pad matching perfectly. But this is just the start of this encounter. This Mark V is chambered in the .30-06 Springfield. Commercially manufactured rifles chambered in .30-06 are popular for hunting. Current .30-06 factory ammunition varies in bullet weight from 7.1 to 14.3 grams in solid bullets, and as low as 3.6 grams with the use of a sub-caliber bullet in a sabot. Loads are available with reduced velocity and pressure as well as increased velocity and pressure for stronger firearms. The .30-06 remains one of the most popular sporting cartridges in the world. The Mark V was originally designed as a rifle that could withstand the sheer power of the Weatherby cartridge assortment, and while this rifle is beautiful, it is in equal parts a devastating and capable tool, the epitome of its purpose. In overall Fine-Excellent condition, this rifle is a true hunter’s rifle that will be a prized part of any collection, but most importantly, yours. Please see our photos and good luck!
