Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “SAKO AV”, with the serial number and with a proof mark. The left side of the barrel is marked “SAKO CAL..270 WIN. MADE IN FINLAND” next to a proof mark, the underside is marked “IMP’D BY STOEGER INC. N.J.” The underside of the bolt handle is scribed with “031”. The flooplate is engraved with an elk’s head and floral motifs. The trigger guard also has floral motifs.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is grooved for mounting and optic (not included). Included separately is a pair of Sako scope mounts.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one piece high gloss finished skipline checkered wood with a Monte Carlo comb, cheekpiece, pistol grip, sling studs mounted front and rear and solid orange rubber Sako buttpad. Included separately are two sling swivels. There are areas of cloudiness throughout the wood. Otherwise, the stocks have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad has dark discoloration throughout and has hardened with age. The stock rates in about Fine-Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few little dings near the muzzle, though no through the finish. Otherwise, only light handling marks are present. There is extremely faint operational wear. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. It has a sliding safety mounted on the right rear of the receiver. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in its matching box with the previously mentioned accessories and a manual.
Our Assessment: Sako first started making rifles with FN Mauser actions in 1946, and finally settled on 3 different length actions that changed designations over the years. The L61R long action was introduced in 1961 and was replaced in 1978 by the AIII then later changed to the AV. This rifle is a Stoeger import L61R Finnbear action simply marked AV in .270 Winchester. There are some manufacturers that come around every once in a while and stun with their build quality, Sako has always carried that distinction.The .270 Winchester is a suitable cartridge for hunting deer-sized game at open ranges making it suitable for plains game and mountain hunting. Standard ballistics tests show that the .270 is highly appropriate for hunting screeching boars and pigs. If you’re looking for a new hunting rifle, you can’t do much better than this.
