Markings: The underside of the barrel is marked “IMPORTED BY STOEGER”. The left side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN FINLAND”. The top of the barrel is marked “SAKO / CAL..25-06”. The left side of the receiver is marked “L61R” and with the serial number, “No. 529612” and with two factory markings. The bottom of the bolt handle is hand scribed “612”. The floorplate is engraved with an elk’s head and floral motifs. The trigger guard also has floral motifs.

Sights/Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights on this rifle. The receiver is grooved for mounting an optic (not included).
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is one-piece skip-line checkered wood with a rosewood capped forend and pistol grip, fluted Monte Carlo comb with cheek-piece, and a brown rubber ventilated recoil pad. There are sling studs front and rear and included separately and two sling swivels. There is a white bear’s head inlay in the grip cap. The finish has taken a cloudy appearance with age throughout the wood. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the trigger to the rubber recoil pad. The recoil pad is soft and remains pliable. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is an M.E. reading of 0.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no significant wear present. The screw heads show light use with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent overall condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This rifle comes in its original serial matching box with the previously mentioned sling swivels and paperwork including a manual.
Our Assessment: The Finnbear L61R, was in production from 1962 to 1973. Sako Finnbear rifles are hefty, known for their fit, finish, and accuracy. And they have held their value very well. The Finnbear is a beautiful hunting rifle that can be passed down from generation to generation. This example is in Fine-Excellent condition with a beautiful, bright bore and a feather light trigger.
