Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “GOLDEN EAGLE FIREARMS, HOUSTON, TEXAS-U.S.A. / MODEL 5000-II 20 GAUGE 2 3/4″ & 3″” above the stock line, below the stock line each barrel is marked “SKEET” and “NP” on the left. The right of the top barrel is marked “MADE IN JAPAN / BY NIKKO”. The bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “NIKKO PROOF STEEL”. The bottom of the monoblock is marked “257053” and with inspection marks. The inside of the forend iron is marked “257053” and the inside of the forend is stamped “053”. The top tang is marked “N257053”, the bottom of the receiver is marked “NIKKO” in oval. The receiver has grade II engraving with molded gold screaming eagles on each side.

Choke: Both Skeet, both Fixed.
Sights / Optics: There is a white bead in a base at the front of the rib and a smaller white mid-bead. The rib is finely serrated for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered select walnut, the semi-beavertail forend has finger grooves running the length, the stock has a flat-bottom pistol grip, straight comb and checkered black plastic buttplate. The stocks have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has no notable wear or damage with sharp checkering. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2″, drop at heel 2 1/4″. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The action shows faint operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The barrels lock up with no play. The safety does not return to safe when the action is opened, but functions properly when engaged manually. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a Golden Eagle Firearms shipping carton with serial-matching label as well as a warranty card (not filled out).
Our Assessment: The iconic Model 101 is a shotgun with legendary styling and handling and the unquestionable reliability you expect from Winchester firearms, but they weren’t actually made by Winchester. Production took place in Japan at the Olin-Kodensha factory and Kodensha just happened to have a subsidiary, Nikko, which just happened to have a factory next door which just happened to produce shotguns that were very much like the Winchester 101 (though some say that the engraving and wood work was higher quality at Nikko). In fact, it has long been speculated that the parts for the Nikko 5000 models were actually produced at the Kodensha plant and taken to the Nikko building for final fit, finish and assembly. This example was imported by Golden Eagle Firearms in the late ’70s or early ’80s and looks like it has spent nearly all of the intervening time in its original shipping carton. It is a Grade II Skeet model with 28″ barrels and chambered for 2 3/4″ or 3″ 20 gauge shells. While collectors may wish to keep this very well preserved example in its carton, this is also sure to be a great Skeet or field gun for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
