Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “PERFORMANCE / CENTER”, the right is marked “460 S&W / MAGNUM”. The left of the frame is marked with S&W’s Performance Center logo, the right is marked with the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The yoke cut is marked “LHZ0493 / 460”, the yoke has an inspection mark. The sides of the grip frame have inspection marks and the butt is marked “LHZ0493”.
Barrel Length: 3 1/2″, 4 1/” to the end of the threaded-on muzzle brake.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a green fiber-optic blade pinned to a rise in the barrel. The rear sight is a square-notched leaf adjustable for elevation and windage. The topstrap (under the rear sight base) is drilled and tapped for an optic mount (none included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece S&W monogram Hogue Monogrip pebble-textured gray-green rubber stock that completely covers the grip frame with finger grooves and a sling-stud mounting screw. A piece of squishy, foam-like substance has been stuck to the backstrap at the top under the grip. The grip has some light scuffing in the smooth portions and light handling marks. There is a mark into the back of the grip. The grip has some discoloration. The texturing is strong. There are no rips or tears. Overall, the grip is in about Very Good Plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some scattered scuffs, some have caused smooth spots on the matte finish. There are some scattered light handling marks. The cylinder has a turn line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces very little play on each of the five chambers. The double action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a Smith & Wesson Performance Center gray case with a non-matching label. The case has paperwork including the manual.
Our Assessment: The S&W 460 is built on S&W’s largest frame, the X-Frame, which was developed because none of S&W’s existing double-action frame designs could handle the muzzle energy and pressures generated by the .500 S&W cartridge. The .460 S&W Magnum is essentially a longer and more powerful version of the .454 Casull, itself a lengthened and more powerful .45 Colt. Able to push a 200 grain bullet past 2,300 fps, the .460 S&W is not just one of the most powerful handguns in the world, it also fires at one of the highest velocities of any revolver in the world, allowing for unprecedented penetration when hunting with a revolver. This example comes from the venerable Performance Center, produced with a 3 1/2″ barrel and hi-viz sight. The overall size is just small enough to make it almost convenient for carrying if you’re hunting or finishing where you may encounter bears or other large predators, and you’ll be glad of the muzzle brake which is installed when you do fire it.
