Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “460 S&W MAGNUM”, the right is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The left of the frame is marked with S&W’s monogram logo, the right is marked with the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The sideplate is marked “460 / XVR”. The crane-cut is marked “CJL5185 / 460”, the cut has an inspection mark. The sides of the grip frame have inspection marks and the butt is marked “CJL5185”.
Barrel Length: 8 3/8″, With Removable Muzzle Brake (additional brake is included)
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a green fiber-optic blade pinned to a rise in the barrel. The rear sight is a square-notched leaf adjustable for elevation and windage. The topstrap (under the rear sight base) is drilled and tapped for an optic mount (none included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a one-piece S&W monogram Hogue Monogrip pebble-textured black rubber stock that completely covers the grip frame with finger grooves. A piece of squishy, foam-like substance has been stuck to the backstrap at the top under the grip. The grip has some light scuffing in the smooth portions and light handling marks. There are no rips or tears. Overall, the grip is in about Very Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The barrel has a few scattered light marks, light wear on the left side of the barrel, and some scratches at the top-left edge of the barrel rib. The frame and sideplate have scraping around the front sideplate screw. The cylinder has a thin turn-line and some scattered light scuffing. The trigger and hammer have light operational wear. The mounting bracket for the grip has put light wear on the butt (concealed while assembled). The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces very little play on each of the five chambers. The double action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in an unlabled blue plastic Smith & Wesson box with an assortment of factory paperwork including manual, cable lock, and an additional muzzle brake.
Our Assessment: The S&W 460 is built on S&W’s largest frame, the X-Frame, which was developed because none of S&W’s existing double-action frame designs could handle the muzzle energy and pressures generated by the .500 S&W cartridge. The .460 S&W Magnum is essentially a longer and more powerful version of the .454 Casull, itself a lengthened and more powerful .45 Colt. Able to push a 200 grain bullet past 2,300 fps, the .460 S&W is not just one of the most powerful handguns in the world, it also fires at one of the highest velocities of any revolver in the world, allowing for unprecedented penetration when hunting with a revolver. This example has an 8 3/8″ barrel with interchangeable muzzle brakes and hi-viz sight. The overall size is a little big for carry unless you are Arnold in his prime, but if you’re a handgun hunter it should provide for the precision you’ll need for longer shots and this revolver has the power to take any game you want in North America.
