Our Assessment: This Uberti made replica of the Winchester model 1866 “Yellowboy” is a lever-action repeating rifle that takes .45 Colt rounds and it was imported by Taylor’s & Co. The Winchester model 1866 is an iconic design, nicknamed the “Yellowboy” because of its brass receiver, the rifle was purchased by a number of nations for military use. The Winchester repeating rifle was introduced in 1860 as “the Henry” and its superior rate of fire set it ahead of almost all small arms made at the time. The 1866 improved upon the 1860 with the introduction of a loading gate which allowed for a wood forend to be installed under the barrel. The Ottoman Empire purchased over 45,000 which were used in the 1877 Russo-Turkish War where the outnumbered Turks inflicted many times more casualties than their opponents who were armed with single-shot rifles. This is a very nicely crafted replica which can be used for western cowboy action shooting, kept as a reminder of history or just used as a mantle piece for conversation. Good luck on your bid! This is one rifle you do not want to miss out on!
