Markings: The left side of the upper barrel on the O/U Set is marked “ITHACA GUN COMPANY-ITHACA-NEW YORK / 12 GA. 2 3/4 CHAMBER – MADE IN ITALY / MX8”. The MX8 marking is gold. The right side of the upper barrel is marked “CUSTOM CRAFTED BY MANIFATTURA ARMI PERAZZI”. The underside of the bottom barrel is marked “ACCAIO SPECIAL”. The left side of the upper barrel which is covered by the forend is marked with one star and “18.4” wich is stamped over a “5”. The left side of the lower barrel is marked “KG1.690” with two stars over “18.4”. The barrel flat is marked with two Italian proofs, “AB” in a square, “MAP CAM.70 / 47399”. The forend hardware is marked “47399”. The forend wood is marked “7399”. The Right side of the single barrel trap barrel set is marked “IMPORTER WINCHESTER / NEW HAVEN – CONN”. The left side of the barrel is marked “PERAZZI SPA – MADE IN BRESCIA – ITALY / 12 GA 2 ¾” CHAMBER”. The left side of the barrel which is covered by the forend is marked “CAM 70 KG1 600 18.5” The underside of the barrel weight is marked “ACCIAIO SPECIAL”. The barrel flat is marked “MTR 587 / 53205 / MAP” with three Italian proofs and “AE” in a circle (This barrel set dates to 1979). The forend hardware and wood are marked “47399”. The receiver walls are marked “47399 0800 MAP”. The watertable section is marked with three Italian proofs. The underside of the receiver is marked “O/U”. The inside of the additional trigger group is marked “42099”.
Barrel Length: OU=31 ¾” Single Barrel=33 ¾” Both barrel sets are ported.
Choke: The single barrel set is choked Improved Modified. The top barrel of the over under set is marked with one star choked Full. The lower barrel is marked with two stars and is choked Improved Modified.
Sights / Optics: The over under barrel set is mounted with a steel bead front sight and a small mid rib steel bead. The elevated rib is .4” wide. The Single barrel trap set is mounted with two white beads. One at the muzzle and one mid elevated rib.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut. The buttstock has a square butt pistol grip with an engraved pistol grip cap. The cap is marked with what appears to be “ELLE”. The LOP measures 14 ½” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad. The drop at heel measures 1 ¼” The drop at comb measures 1 ¼”. The comb is adjustable. The buttstock only shows light handling marks. The forends both only show faint handling marks as well. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: The receiver and over under barrel set appear to be original while the Single barrel set shows signs of a refinish.
Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is No erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning of the case coloring on the receiver. The Over Under barrel set shows light thinning at the chambers. There are only light handling marks on the barrels. The single barrel trap set shows thinning and a matte finish. Some of the lettering is thinned. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions Correctly. We have not fired this shotgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a leather bound hard case with brass corners and hardware. The exterior of the case shows storage wear and rates in Very Good Condition. The interior of the case shows light oil staining and has cutouts for the buttstock, both barrel sets, and other accessories. Inside the case is an additional trigger group which is housed within a leather sleeve. There is a small green plastic case which contains an Allan head screw driver tip and a small right angle Allen wrench which has duct tape for a handle. A small finger drill is included for cleaning out the porting holes on the barrel sets.
Our Assessment: What an Fantastic set for the clay shooter. Perazzi made the MX8 in 1968 for the Mexico City Olympics. The following year, these guns were imported into the US through Ithaca. This shotgun was made in 1976. This set is perfect for those of you that enjoy both skeet and trap. Two trigger groups are included as well. Both Barrel sets are ported. The bores are very Bright and smooth. The barrels are fixed choke. This kit is ready for the field or range. The gun overall shows only signs of respectful use. This would be a fantastic kit to add to your collection. If you are a serious shooter, you deserve a serious gun. Look no further than the Ithaca Perazzi MX8.
