Our Assessment: Ruger is fast becoming the great American firearms company in terms of its consistency and longevity. Where others have risen and fallen or outsourced and diversified, Ruger is still doing its own thing on its own terms here in the US, and doing it well, with more and more of their catalog moving into the realm of collectability. Which isn’t to say that when they dabble in new production one shouldn’t pay attention. At the 100 year anniversary of the storied Colt 1911, Ruger fashioned their own, the SR1911. A nice reproduction, it differed from the original in only minor ways. This example is what Ruger refers to as the “Officer-Style” SR1911, a small-frame version chambered for 9mm Luger. More so than their initial 1911 offering, this variant sees Ruger doing what they truly excel at: taking what has worked previously and fashioning it into something altogether their own. The lack of a barrel bushing is obviously a major departure from the original 1911 pattern, and the heavy bull barrel adds needed weight to what is a rather small pistol. In overall Excellent condition, virtually free of wear, the winner of this auction will have in their collection a great looking gun made by a venerable company. Good luck and happy bidding!
