Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “STURM, RUGER & CO. INC., SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A.”. The left side of the barrel shank is marked “25-06” and with a proof mark. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number “70-32315” and “RUGER M77”. The rear of the bolt is marked with the last 5 digits of the serial number “32315” in electric pencil. The scope is marked “6X-18X / REDFIELD” and with company & patent info. The grip base and recoil pad are marked with the Ruger phoenix logo.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights/Optics: The receiver rib is notched for scope rings. Two Ruger style scope rings hold the variable power scope to the receiver. The glass appears clear but is slightly dim. The power ring is missing its screw. It turns but does not reliably change the magnification setting. We do not know if adding a screw will remedy this. The scope tube shows scuffs and small scrapes. Overall the scope assembly is in about Good condition.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The wood stock has a checkered pistol grip & forearm, 2 sling studs and a rubber recoil pad. The recoil pad shows surface loss around the edges. The wood shows light handling marks. The underside of the forearm shows a small area of scrapes which are from the sling buckle. The LOP is 13 3/4 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stock rates in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The lands are bright. The muzzle and grooves are semi bright. The rifling is sharp. There is intermittent erosion in the grooves. There is some pitting in the grooves about 6 to 10 inches back from the muzzle.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The metal shows scuffs & light handling marks. The barrel shows a few spots of discoloration from oxidation. The most prominent discoloration is at the edge of the muzzle. The screws are intact. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork and Accessories: A scope assembly included; see above. The rifle has a padded leather sling attached. It is marked “SADDLE MATE”, with a “stag” and with company info.
Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 is a robust bolt-action rifle designed in 1968 by L. James Sullivan during his short three-years with Ruger. Intended originally as a modernized Mauser 98, it featured simplified ejector updates and a newly designed safety system.
This is an Original Tang Safety Model made back in 1971. This M77 looks great and is topped with a scope. Good luck.
