Our Assessment: Ruger’s own ad-copy: “Developed in response to increasing shooter interest in quality, the new Ruger .22 caliber bolt-action rifle tips the scale at just under six pounds and has been developed to provide the small bore shooter with a compact feather-weight arm that delivers the performance, reliability, and luxury features characteristic of the finest high-powered big-game rifles.” Often these types of statements are boisterous and attention getting, and when the rubber meets the road, one realizes the maker’s own assessment can fall short of the actual quality of their product. Not so with Ruger. As a company, Ruger has to this day an amazing ability to zero in on what the market is lacking and turn their leviathan-like production power to making firearms that please shooters, serious and casual alike. This 77/22 is the All Weather variant finished with Ruger’s own Target Gray. This rifle otherwise has that refined Ruger look. A capable combination of the best aspects of the 10/22 and the M77, the 77/22 is a wonderful all-around target plinker. Chambered here for .22 Hornet, and equipped with Ruger rings and a scope, it will also make for a fine varmint rifle suitable for medium sized game. Good luck and happy bidding!
