Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON INC. / GARDNER, MASS. MADE IN U.S.A.” and “MODEL — M12 / .22 LONG RIFLE”. The left side of the receiver is marked “U.S. / AX704433”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Redfield Olympic globe sight with a post insert fixed to the top of the barrel above the muzzle. The rear sight is a Redfield Palma aperture sight adjustable for windage and elevation installed via the holes drilled and tapped on the left rear of the receiver. The top of the barrel has a pair of holes drilled and tapped midway to accommodate rails and optics (not included). There is also a pair of holes drilled, tapped and installed with a rail at the top rear of the barrel (no optic included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece wood featuring an inlet accessory rail with a forward sling mount installed, semi-pistol grip, straight comb and red hard rubber buttplate. There is no notable damage or wear, just light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There is only a little light scuffing on the buttplate, primarily at the heel. The stock is in Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is a bit of finish loss on the top rear of the receiver and some light handling marks throughout. The screw heads show some tooling marks but remain serviceable. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The H&R M12 was made as a marksmanship training rifle to fulfill military requirements for training rifles as stocks of Remington 40X and Winchester Model 52 rifles diminished. With many of the same features including inlet accessory rail, globe front sight and aperture rear, many of these M12s were made available to the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) clubs which later became the CMP.
